UNIVAQ’s bio-hydrometallurgical process

The main activities of UNIVAQ within the FENIX project are focused on development of bio-hydrometallurgical processes for the recovery of base and precious metals from different streams of electrical and electronic equipments. These processes, being easily scaled-up and controlled at larger level, have been firstly developed at laboratory level and, then, tested and optimized within a small industrial scale hydrometallurgical pilot plant. Within the small industrial plant is possible to treat about 20-40 kg of wasted material per batch (depending on the applied process and waste material) and to achieve metallic powders of both precious and base metals. These products, according to the circular economy paradigm, are currently tested and used as raw materials for the three FENIX use cases.
